How you can repurpose your content

Afraid that people will think that you are boring or lazy if you are posting your old content again?
But did you know that the average person needs to hear something at least 7 times before even having an opinion about it?
If you then add the fact that not all of your followers actually see your posts, then this is not a bad idea at all.

YOU ARE AMAZING

As a business owner, we are often a one person show. Meaning that we pretty much are the CEO, marketing expert, financial genius and killing it as a customer service agent at the same time. 

Even if it’s a proof that we all are something absolutely extra, it can also easily be a little too much. 

My favorite quote is “working smarter, not harder” and repurposing your content is one way to make that happen.

It’s always wise to use good content more than once.

 

HOW TO DO THAT?

In order to repurpose your content, you have two different ways to approach it:

 

• The first one is to create as much as possible of the content you currently are working on.
• The other one is to simply promote it again, later on.
  

   

But let’s start with how you can make the most of the content that you put much love, time and effort into creating. 

I will use myself as an example here and let you know how I work to give you a feeling of how you can organize it in your business. 

And for me, I always start with a blog post.

After finishing the writing, I usually make 2-3 instagram/facebook posts, just using the text I have just written, only that I tweak it a bit so it will become a post with a attention grabber, value and CTA (read more about how to structure your post here. 

Beside those posts, I also create one post to promote the new blog post itself. 

After that, I create 4-5 pinterest pins for this one blog post. (It goes super fast as I use my templates)

And finally I create an email about it so sent to my email list. 

 

to Repurpose your content is so smart

So far, not so complicated… But the biggest question is how to distribute all the content. 

Usually I post one of the Instagram posts I have been creating by using the text in the blog post first, this is to create some interest around the topic. I then post the promotional post for the blog post with a link in my bio. 

And then I spread out the other 1-2 posts after that. 

Pinterest pins are pinned as soon as the blog post goes live.

 

EXAMPLES OF HOW IT CAN LOOK LIKE:

• Publish blog post + Pin on Pinterest
• Social Media post made of blog text
• Send a newsletter to my subscribers
• Promote the post on Social Media
• Social Media post made of blog text

Please note that the steps are not coming days after each other as it looks like. This is maybe for a time frame over 2 weeks and I’m currently posting every weekday so there are other posts mixed up in between.

This is just a rough example of how it can look like for me, made to give you a bit of an idea how you can schedule and plan for your own content.

Maybe you also have a podcast and a YouTube channel as well, then you can just promote from your original content for those platforms as well. 

 

THE SECOND PART

The other approach to repurpose your content is to simply just promote old content again. Go back to your archive and repost old content. Simple as that.

As you probably have got new followers and with the facts given in the beginning of this post that the average person needs to see something more than seven times before even having an opinion and that not all your followers see your post.

Well girl, go ahead and repurpose your content A LOT without feeling ashamed. 

It’s a big chance that it will be something completely new for the majority of your audience. 

DON’T FEEL CONFUSED

I totally get it if you feel that you never will have control over which post should be posted when and how to keep everything together. Even if my intention with this post is the opposite. 

All our businesses are different and what’s working fine for me might not be the best way for you. But we can all be inspired in order to find new ways to do certain things. 

BUT PLANNING IS KEY

No matter how we do it, content creation is hard and a big part of our everyday small business lives. But with planning it will make it so much easier, as it gives you a feeling of control and that you actually have a plan with your posting. 

I use an online scheduling tool for my Instagram account and that is great as it keeps my already done posts organized and helps me with the posting.

But the real feeling of being in control when I plan my content and what’s giving me the best overview in my planning are my planning sheets. 

I fill in them and work from the information I have there, and once I have content done, I schedule blog posts, emails and social media posts. 

This is the perfect way to work for me. It makes me very effective as I can focus on one thing once I’m done, I’m done.
