Want to attract mamas who value beautiful motherhood portraits? I design brands and websites that tell your story, the way you tell theirs - authentically and thoughtfully.
My years photographing these precious moments showed me exactly what makes families connect with their photographer, and now I help you create that same connection
We write so much for our businesses. Captions, blogs, guides, descriptions. And most of the time, we are thinking about how it will perform. Is this good for the algorithm? Will anyone even see it? Did we choose the right keywords?
It takes the joy out of writing when every sentence feels like it has to please a platform before it can be real.
My email list has never felt like that.

As a selected Flodesk Partner, this blog post was created in paid collaboration with Flodesk.
My email list is where I can breathe a little. I can sit down, write what I’m actually thinking, and send it to people who chose to be there. No pressure. No trying to impress an algorithm. Just real thoughts sent to real people.
When I started my design business over five years ago, Flodesk had just launched. I did not overthink it. I signed up because it felt good the moment I opened it. Soft. Friendly. Easy. It was the first platform where I could make an email look clean without spending half a day adjusting tiny things. And for someone who cares about design, that mattered more than I realised at the time.
And honestly, it still does.
People are visual. We scroll fast. We take things in with our eyes before our brain decides if we want to keep reading. Flodesk fits into that behaviour in the nicest way. The layout just makes sense and the design blocks help you separate the personal part of your email from the practical parts.
It is designed in a way our brains naturally understand, so when people scroll, it feels familiar and easy to read, which is important in our noisy world today.
When I photographed families, email was the easiest way for me to stay connected. I was a mum myself, and I wrote about everyday moments I knew other parents understood. It was not complicated. It was personal, and it worked.
If you are a mum yourself, you already have endless moments that could become a short email. Something sweet your child said. A moment of chaos. A thought you had while driving to school pickup. You do not need fancy words. You just need to sound like yourself.
And even if you are not a mother yourself, you can still send personal stories. It can be something small from your week. Something that made you smile. Something that made you think of your clients. A moment from your day that your clients will recognise. These are the pieces that help people feel closer to you.
This is the type of email you will send the most of. But even if it’s “just” a personal note. You should always have links to your website added in your emails. Under your signature, add one of the graphic and very pretty link blocks that are found within Flodesk. They make it a natural part of your email and are not screaming “I want to sell you something” as an ordinary button does. Add links here to each of the sessions you offer.
This is a soft way to talk about your work without it feeling like you’re selling. Pick a session and describe how it felt. Maybe the baby needed soothing. Maybe the toddler ran around the entire time. Maybe the parents were nervous in the beginning and relaxed halfway through. These moments are relatable and help potential clients picture themselves with you.
Just write it like you would tell a friend, and add a few pictures in a gallery using the image block and then add columns under the grid & aspect ratio menu.
Flodesk helps you keep these emails easy to read. The layout separates your story from your images and from your links without it feeling like three different emails. Everything flows together.
And the sweet part is that these session stories also make great blog posts. You already have the images and the feelings. All you need is to shape it into a post.
This is exactly what I teach in my Blog Masterclass, where I show photographers how to turn their everyday sessions into posts that actually help you book more sessions.
An old piece of advice is to copy your entire blog post, paste it into an email and send the whole thing out. I would not recommend doing that unless you have a specific reason for it. A better way is to share a small part of the post, add a short personal note why they should read it and then link to the full blog on your website.
And that visit matters. Traffic to your website, especially to your blog posts, is often something people spend time reading and clicking around. This sends positive signals to Google and supports your SEO in a very natural way.
Flodesk also makes it easy to add a small graphic link instead of a plain hyperlink or a button. It feels more natural to click, and it does not have the buying vibe buttons often give, which increases the chance that people actually click through to your website to keep reading.
Your subscribers should always hear about sessions first. Mini sessions. Seasonal openings. Last newborn spots. Holiday sessions. They want this information.
And whenever you feel you need to boost bookings a little, your email list is the first place to go. It is much calmer to reach out to the people who already chose to be there, rather than trying to get attention on Instagram when it feels like everyone is shouting at the same time.
Booking sessions is the reason you have the list. You are not sending emails just to take up space in someone’s inbox for fun. But direct selling should not happen all the time though. If you send one email a week, maybe every four to six emails can be something where you actively ask them to book. That is often enough.
With Flodesk, you can still keep a visual reminder in every email with the visual link blocks. Add links to your newborn, maternity, and family pages under your signature at the bottom. It will make it look clean and inviting without being salesy. And those links should be added to all emails you send, not only the one you are actually asking them to book as sessions.
And for the moments when you are actively asking them to book, you can also add a countdown timer to show how long something is available.
For me, it always comes down to this: When something feels easy and fun, I keep doing it. And Flodesk has felt that way for me from the very beginning. I like opening it. I like writing inside it. It never feels overwhelming.
The updates they have added through the years, like the Canva integration, clearer insights and countdown timers, have only made so much more fun to use. It shows that they listen to what small business owners actually need, without adding a lot of complicated features no one asked for.
We are not big companies with teams, and that needs ten different tools to track things. We just want to write emails that make people excited and send them without getting stuck in the tech. Flodesk lets you do exactly that, and it feels like it’s made for you every time you open it.

Yes, you guessed right, this is an affiliate link and I earn a small commission when you use it.
