Why you need a blog for your service based business
Blogging is dead! Is blogging worth it? It’s all about Video nowadays…
I’m sure you have heard all of it and also ten other versions of it.
So the question is, should you have a blog for your Service Based Business? My answer to that question is yes, yes and yes!
If you got the right purpose I guarantee you that it will be one of the most important things you can spend time on in your business.
The right purpose
Whatever you are doing in your business you need to have a purpose with every single thing.
And when it comes to blogging there are a lot of different purposes that you can have.
It can be to just use it as a journal as it was back in the days.
It can be a source of income via different affiliate programs.
It can be a place where you show your work.
Your blog can for sure contain many of those different parts.
But when it comes to having a blog connected to your business you need to have a very clear reason why you are blogging.
Your blog’s purpose
And I can tell you what your purpose and reason for your blog should be.
– Google
You are blogging for Google.
As your purpose with your blog should be SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
Your goal should be to drive traffic to your site.
I know that just hearing SEO is making you roll your eyes. But with blogging, you work on your SEO automatically.
Google likes new content, it sends signals that your website is active. And a new blog post is new content.
When you are blogging for your business, you are automatically using the keywords that a potential client will google for.
This doesn’t mean that your existing following not will read your posts or find them beneficial. What I mean is that your main purpose for your blog is to drive new clients to your site. Everything else that your blog will provide to your business will just be a bonus.
This specific goal is important
There is no joke that blogging can make you rich today. And by having this only purpose it will make it easier for you to be consistent and show up with a clear message.
Wondering what I’m talking about?
If you try to do “all the things” with your blog, like a post about your trip to your grandma yesterday, another post full of amazon affiliate links, in the third one you show your new handbag and somewhere in between you are showing the work for your last client…
It’s a bit messy and that is also what your potential clients will think, and google. If you will do a little bit of this and a little bit of that the end result will also be a little bit if this and a little bit of that.
The best quote regarding blogging for your business
It’s too sad I don’t remember who said this;
“One business’s value and trustworthiness is bigger and more valuable than any affiliate program in the world”
Let me explain.
I was following a blog about lifestyle and fashion. One day she published a sponsored post about insurance specifically made for caravans…
Later on, she had a new sponsored post, this time about a specific car model…
Neither caravans nor cars is something that is in the interest of her readers or is related to her blog topic. Those posts only left a bad taste of greediness which also more or less removed all trust I had for her.
Do you see what I’m going for here?
If you want to have a more lifestyle blog that you want to earn money from via affiliate and sponsored posts, create a separate blog for that!
The blog you have for your Service Based Business will generate money as well, in order for your readers to buy your services.
But in order for you to do so, you need to build that trust and that is exactly what your blog is helping you with.
How to build trust
When you are blogging you have a chance to not only show your previous work, you can also show your expertise in your area by creating posts full of information about what your potential clients might google.
Building trust is also something that is given by being personal, to let your costumes get to know you.
And for sure, you can write a personal blog post, but make sure that the personal topics you blog about are relevant for your clients.
But bare in mind that this kind of “personal connection” might be better for another platform?
Your Instagram Stories are a perfect place for showing new handbags, kitchen renovations and other more casual (but interesting) parts of your life.

Yes, you should definitely have a blog for your Service Based Business. But your purpose is to serve your ideal client with information that she would google for.

When I talk about Google I mean all search engines not only Google specific.
But please do not forget Pinterest that also is a huge Search Engine, especially for service based business owners.
Every time you have blogged you should post 2-3 pins as you need to provide information about your post to Pinterest, it doesn’t “crawl” the internet as Google does.

I completely agree about only blogging in your niche, I struggled in the beginning with this and I wanted to cover so many things for around the home, I found that paring it down really helped to focus me and my readers.
I can relate to that feeling. You want to serve as many as possible, but the interesting thing is that you probable will start to grow when you narrow down.
